Expanding Your Marketing Reach with the Menu App

restaurant menu on facebookAs we announced last week, more than 1,500 restaurants are using the MustHaveMenus Menu App to publish their menu and flyers directly to Facebook in a single click.

With our one-stop-shop for printed and Facebook-friendly menus, you benefit from low-cost, high quality design, one place to store all your menu files and an up-to-date, consistent menu in your restaurant and on your Facebook page.

The benefit of publishing your menu to your Facebook tab and to your Wall is that it gives your fans a reason to comment and like favorite dishes, specials and events. When your customers comment, this causes the menu to appear on their friends’ newsfeeds. This creates new visibility for the restaurant and can help you grow your business.

However, the Menu App is an effective tool for helping you spread the word about your restaurant and events outside Facebook. With every menu or flyer you publish to Facebook, you get a unique hyperlink to your menu or flyer. That link is powerful because you can use it to quickly share your menu or flyer in so many ways including:

  1. In your email newsletter
  2. To your text list
  3. On your website
  4. Embed in a QR code
  5. To share on a partner businesses’ Facebook page
  6. To share on your personal Facebook page
  7. To send to the Chamber with your event announcement
  8. To send to a prospective catering customer via email
  9. To online event directories

How to Use the Menu App to Expand Your Marketing Reach

Now that we’ve talked about where you can expand your marketing reach with the Menu App, it’s time to show you how to do it. You’ll first need to publish a menu or flyer to Facebook from the MyMenus section of MustHaveMenus. See our tutorial on how to publish a menu to Facebook.

Here are the simple steps to grabbing that important link:

1. Go to your Facebook Page and Click the Your Menu Tab:

A Few Use Cases for Your Menu Link

Now that you have your menu link, how exactly do you use it?

First, paste the link into a Text file (Notepad or WordPad program) on your computer. Now, let’s share that link:

In your email marketing:

  1. Create an email in your email program (Constant Contact, MailChimp, etc.)
  2. Select the text you want to use to link to your menu or flyer.how to link to menu
  3. Find the add hyperlink button in your email manager and paste in the link to your menu.

A few recommendations:

  1. Use the link in a call to action like we did above.
  2. Keep the link text to just two or three words.
  3. Test your links before you send!

In your text marketing:

Text message marketing is effective and instant. And you can use your menu link in a text message to boost its effectiveness. Here’s how to share that link:

  1. You’ll need to shorten your link before you add it to your text to save space. Go to http://www.bitly.com.
  2. Paste your menu link (the one you copied earlier) into the blue box on the Bit.ly site. Click Share.
  3. Your shortened link will replace the long link in the blue box with one like this: http://on.fb.me/JzDh96 (It’s a link to the MHM Facebook menu).

Add this shortened link to your text message to your customers. Here’s a sample message:

It’s Margarita Monday! Join us at El Sombre from 5-7 p.m. for specialty margaritas. See menu here: http://on.fb.me/JzDh96. Text STOP 2 quit. Msg rates apply.

Embed a QR code with a link to your Facebook menu:

One of the newest features in MustHaveMenus’ Menu Editor is that you can add your own images such as a QR code like we did in this example. I got this QR code with the embedded link to our Facebook menu at the same site I created the shortened link – Bit.ly.

  1. To access a QR code on Bit.ly, you simply click on the Info Page as seen below:qr code link
  2. To download the QR code, simply right click and save the file.qr code download
  3. Insert the image in your menu or flyer file with the Menu Editor by selecting Image Manager.

4. Move it to your desired location on the menu and save your changes. Now, you’ve got a link to your Facebook menu on your menu!
